Just yesterday, 15 December, the Nigerian communications commission issued a directive, mandating all network operators to block all SIM cards that are not linked to the National identification number(NIN) with two weeks as a period of ultimatum.
This order by the NCC has however generated a lot of ripples since it was released, with many condemning the action, tagging it as clueless and ill-timed.
However, it is a thing of compulsion for all bonafide citizens of Nigeria to possess a valid National ID Number and it is towards this end that the NCC issued this order. It was reported that only about 30million of the over 200million Nigerian citizens have an NIN, hence the need for an urgent step to capture the data of every citizen, as this might serve well as a tool to boost the security architecture of the country, as posited by the NCC.
The purpose of this article is to help you escape from the sledgehammer of the NCC.
The minister of communication, Dr. Isa pantami had approved some agents to capture data of citizens and legal residents, this will help widen and ease the enrolment process.
Here are the websites of the NCC, where you will get the location of the agents within your locality and other relevant information.
